Gratitude, thankfulness, or gratefulness are all expressions of a heart that has a contentment, appreciation, and joy for the blessings one has. It is not because of all you have, but an attitude of joy founded in the outlook a person views life from. There are touching stories of homeless people role modeling this “thankful” spirit and “sharing” with others even though they have close to nothing and no promise of more replacing what they share. It is a spirit of peace knowing you have enough and are content to not “want” more rather being in the present moment happy and fulfilled with what is.

- Practice it daily. Start a gratitude journal and write down one thing you are thankful for each day. Do this in a book or even a simple jar and use post-it notes.
- Notice your feelings. When you feel thankful or when you feel “not enough” or the “need for more” – stop and just be thankful for what you have or what is. Say a prayer of Thankfulness for these blessings.
- Explore your feelings of want, restlessness or discontentment. Notice if they are serving you and bringing joy or pressure to your life?
- Be intentional about being thankful. Sometimes it is just a choice. Usually, we have to help train and condition our mind to be thankful and see what is RIGHT with the world vs. wrong with the world
- Reframe negativity. When you feel ungrateful or negative, stop and ask WHAT IS GOOD ABOUT THIS? This might seem fluffy or silly, but helping to nurture your perspective and feelings of thankfulness will be a blessing and will provide other benefits to you as well.
